A Study on the Correlation between the Stature and Running Record, Stand-broad jump Record of Korean Middle School Girls

Abstract
The athletic¢¥ record examination including the stature, running, and stand-broad jump was performed to 3, 748 Korean middle school girls ranging from 13 to 15 years of age, and the correlations between the statures and running records and the correlations between the statures and stand-broad jump records were computed in this study.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The average statures in the age group of 13, 14, and 15 were 150.95cm, 153.99cm, and 156, 09cm respectively.
This data reveals that the average stature increases annually by about 2.57cm with the increase of the age, and the growth rate of the annual average stature in remarkable between 13 and 14 of the age than that between 14 and 15 of the age.
2. The average running records of loom course in the age group of 13, 14, and 15 were 18.91, 18.61. and 17.54 seconds respectively.
This record showed that the running power was augmented with the increase of the age, and the aver-age running power of the age group ranging from 13 to 15 became fast by 0.5 to 1.0 second with locra increase of the stature.
3. The average stand-broad jump records in the age group of 13, 14, and 15 years were 171¢¥. 36, 182. 46, and 183.27cm respectively, and were augmented with the increase of age. Also, it has been found that the average stand-broad jump records was augmented by about 9 to locm with locm increase of the stature.
4. The average running and stand-broad jump records of Korean girls were augmented with the increase of age, but the girls records were lower than Korean boys. This phenornenon presumably resulted from the fact that the muscle development of the Korean girls was slower than that of the Korean boys.
5. The rise of the athletic records with the increase of age in the Korean girls of the same stature was probably, believed due to the muscle development.
6. Correlation coefficients between the stature and running record were 0. 170, -0.212, and 0.157 in the age group of 13, 14, and 15 respectively.
And the correlation coefficients between the stand-broad jump record were 0.270, 0.261, and 0.223 in the age group of 13, 14, and 15 respectively.
These correlation coefficient data of Korean girls were remarkably lower than that of Korean boys of
the same age.. This fact was presumed because of the slower muscle development in the case of Korean girls in comparison with Korean boys.
The results of the study suggested that the stature was an important factor. of the athletic records.
